Making Room for Mushrooms

How much room does a mushroom need? Not much (room) at all, according to Scott Henderson, aka “The Mushroom Man”.

Mushrooms are the perfect crop to fit into a corner of your home or balcony, to grow in otherwise unused parts of your garden, or on recycled materials: you can grow winecaps between garden rows, Shiitake mushrooms on logs in a forest, and oyster mushrooms in straw.

So if you’d like to add mushrooms to the list of food you produce, come to Seedy Saturday and learn from an expert how to keep those fungi happy.

“Mushrooms in the Home and Garden” February 16, 10:15 am at the Victoria Conference Centre, 720 Douglas Street, is included in your admission to Victoria’s Seedy Saturday on a first-come-first-get-the-seats basis. Seedy Saturday runs from 10 to 4, admission $7, free for the under-12s.
